All models in the MT series share key technical features: a robust design and a hydraulically rotating rotator. Ideal for scrap, recycling materials and quarry operations.

Orange Peel Loading Grabs MT

One of our bestsellers is the orange peel grab, also known as a poly grab or spider grab. These highly versatile grabs have become the preferred choice, particularly for recycling applications such as scrap and waste handling, as well as stone and slag loading. Their task is almost always the same: to handle as much material as possible in the shortest possible time with minimum effort.

The 4-tine grab was developed for exactly this purpose, following the principle that less is more. Although 5-tine grabs are widely used throughout Europe, the advantages of four tines are clear.

Compared with a conventional 5-tine grab, the 4-tine version offers the same capacity while weighing almost 20% less. This provides the machine with greater lifting reserves without any additional effort. Less overall mass also needs to be moved, saving energy for both the grab itself and the material being handled.

The grab has three fewer bearing points and therefore fewer wear parts. It also requires less hydraulic oil volume, helping to reduce the machine’s energy consumption.

Its outstanding opening and closing times result from the fact that four shells can penetrate the material faster and more effectively than five. The machine only has to recover the oil volume from four cylinders instead of five, while the reduced weight of the additional grab arm also contributes to the performance. Opening times of under two seconds can be achieved.

At first glance, the wider gaps between the shells might raise concerns that smaller material could be lost. However, different versions of the inner shell plates provide a suitable retention solution for virtually every type of material. The effectiveness of four versus five tines is particularly evident when handling scrap vehicles. All four tines can grip securely around the vehicle body, whereas a fifth tine can create instability by pushing the load out of its secure hold.

Finally, operators benefit from the grab’s excellent accessibility. Thanks to its design, lubrication points, hose lines, pins and bushings are easier, faster and more service-friendly to access and maintain. The absence of an additional hydraulic cylinder is also an advantage rather than a drawback. High standards in material processing, manufacturing and assembly complete HGT’s precision-engineered “master hands”.
